Magical Miniatures

If you love all things magical and miniature you are in the right place.

About me and my blog

I am a mother of three and work on a market stall. In my free time I love to make magical miniatures. It all started with my gran who spent hours when I was a child teaching me how to make do. This entailed mending and fixing and making things from scratch. My dolls house consisted of cardboard boxes with windows cut out, beautifully decorated and all furniture hand made. We sat for hours making clothes and accessories for my dolls to the envy of my friends that all had the same generic stuff. So thanks gran for the inspiration. I hope you enjoy my art and my blog. Thanks for visiting.

Caged witch for Halloween

As Halloween is approaching I decided to do a more witchy  witch than usual. I pulled apart a halloween decoration. The witch had no body or legs just materiel hanging down. Using only the head and hands I combined my usual doll making techniques and made a cone as her bottom half.
I cut off her hat and hair and made my own hair from bullion and I made her a long shawl. I have a few cages I got to make some thing with and decided to try her inside. I think once I have worked on the cage it will look great.

7 inch hanging fairy

Using the same method I use for my hanging witches I decided to do a fairy. The only things I have done differently are instead of a broom stick she holds a wand and I used 3 colors of feathers on her gown then of cores I gave her wings.

Finished Christmas tree decoration set

With the star firmly stuck in the tree toppers arms and the 3 cauldrons done I turned my attention to the 3 bauble cats. I made 1 from black shrinky but it's flatness didn't do it for me so I re thought them and came up with some more.
For these I used two sizes of polystyrene balls. Twisted some wire to form a small loop at the top of there heads, I also added a twisting hanger and red ribbon loop to hang them from.
Once the balls were glued together and the hangers secured I made a tail shape and ear shapes from wire then bound them in wool. Once in place I painted them black, added gems for eyes and inserted fishing wire as whiskers.
I was going to do 3 caged hanging witches but decided I wanted spell books instead so I made 3, covered them with suede look material and made red pages to carry on the red, black and silver theme. To finish them off I added silver decoration to the front, back and spines.
So that completes my Christmas tree decoration set.

Christmas tree witch and her star

The more I looked at my christmas tree witch the more I thought she needed something else. That something else was a star. So that said I gave her a crystal star to hold. Now I love her.

Witchy Christmas decorations

As I have made the witch tree topper I decided the baubles were next. I knew I wanted some caged 1 inch miniature witches so I made 3 red cages to hang them in. I have to make up the tiny witches to go in them yet. I have cut out 3 cats from shrinky paper. I have yet to shrink them, give them red collars  and bejewl the eyes before adding a ribbon loop to hang them from the tree branches. Lastly for my Christmas set I have made 3 cauldrons, added swivel hangers and red ribbon loops to hang from.

A witchy Christmas tree topper

I have made a start on the witchy christmas tree decoration set. So far I have made the witch to top the tree with.
Her head is polystyrene and i've used bullion for her hair. Her hat is card covered over with lace. The body made from wire then woven over with wool stops just below the waist where she slots into a cardboard cone so that she sits over the top branch of the tree. I have covered this in black and red feathers creating the skirt.
The top of her gown is ribbon and her broom is wood and string.
I intend to do some 1 inch miniature witches in cages for baubles to match.

29 Inch hanging witch

I have been wondering about enlarging my hanging witch. I have made both 1 inch and 7 inch witches so far but I fancied a big one. So at 29 inch she is the last of the sizes of witch I will create. Although not entirely miniature she is still much smaller than a real witch! also she holds a captured 1 inch caged witch in her hand. Again I used polystyrene for her head. Bullion for her hair, feathers and ribbons for her gown and her body is again wire based then bound in cotton rags. Her broom again is wood and string for the brush head.
Round her neck she wares a pewter spider.
This witch has a hat too. Made from card and covered in lace.
