Magical Miniatures

If you love all things magical and miniature you are in the right place.

About me and my blog

I am a mother of three and work on a market stall. In my free time I love to make magical miniatures. It all started with my gran who spent hours when I was a child teaching me how to make do. This entailed mending and fixing and making things from scratch. My dolls house consisted of cardboard boxes with windows cut out, beautifully decorated and all furniture hand made. We sat for hours making clothes and accessories for my dolls to the envy of my friends that all had the same generic stuff. So thanks gran for the inspiration. I hope you enjoy my art and my blog. Thanks for visiting.

A winters street has snow!

I have been busy chopping up matchsticks for the fences that are situated around the gardens for my houses. It took forever, but with that done and dry I began work on the snow fall.
I still have to add snow to the window ledges and around the top of the fence, and add the base where the battery for the lights will go.
I am still impressed with the usage of salt and glue for snow.

A winters street

As I worked out how to make snow I decided to do a snow scene. I took 3 tic tac packets taking off the tops and stuck a dolls house light bulb into the top of each of them running the wires out of the side.
As I had some left over brick paper I cut windows and popped it onto the plastic box so light will shine out. Roofs are made from card and I used traditional dolls house roof tiles to cover them.
The door, window frames and fence are matchsticks that I cut down to size.
I created the base from card and paper machete and the paths are marl stone.
There is still loads to do yet but I thought I'd give you a little peak along the way.

Let there be snow!!!

I know the weather has been amazing but I have been wanting to do a scene using snow for a while but can't afford the expensive products you can buy. So I have been playing around with a few things to see if I can make my own and I did!
I used salt and a dollop of pva glue. If you paint it onto a surface it will dry like newly fallen snow. Or you can have chunks of snow like I have done here. Also just over halfway through the drying  process you can mould it too. I am so impressed as the salt shimmers as ice and snow does it looks real. Can't wait to start my chilly creation!

Scene in a lantern

For some time now I have had 3 lanterns that I wanted to do something with and never got round to. Well until now that is. I have been working on this all day.
This is my secrete magical garden in a lantern. Hope you like it. It's all handmade.

Room box all done!

I am so pleased with my first room box. It has two working lights and I think I hid the battery well.
I love the little man reading his paper. I made the dolls in the usual way, with wire, wool and polystyrene balls. The dog was an ornament I kept for a make.
