Magical Miniatures

If you love all things magical and miniature you are in the right place.

About me and my blog

I am a mother of three and work on a market stall. In my free time I love to make magical miniatures. It all started with my gran who spent hours when I was a child teaching me how to make do. This entailed mending and fixing and making things from scratch. My dolls house consisted of cardboard boxes with windows cut out, beautifully decorated and all furniture hand made. We sat for hours making clothes and accessories for my dolls to the envy of my friends that all had the same generic stuff. So thanks gran for the inspiration. I hope you enjoy my art and my blog. Thanks for visiting.

Tree stump house lantern

I have a lantern 5 inch high but only a 3 1/2 inch high workable space with a maximum of 2 inch wide. So I decided that I would do a tree stump house.

I started with a strip of card the size I wanted the tree stump to be. I then cut out the windows where after inserting a battery operated led night light they would glow. I then painted what would be the inside, left to dry then glued into place.

After covering the outer layer of cardboard with a thin layer of clay and making a cover for the top I started adding some clay detail to the sides. Once dry I gave it a layer of paint.

I have painted the vines, door and window frames and given the stump another coat of paint. Now I just need it all to dry before I add some detail.

For the top of the stump I have put together some foliage and mushrooms that I still need to paint.

The light shines nicely through the windows and it just fits into the lanterns gap! I'll post again once the details are added and it's in the lantern.
